Scrutinizing The Netherlands: Texel Island
Taking a break from my daily routine is indispensable for reinvigorating my mind and body. Especially around spring when the temperature rises, and the sun shines longer and more brightly. Due to Covid-19, we are exploring The Netherlands more often than ever before, with a short break every three months in different places.
There are more interesting places in The Netherlands, that are worth visiting.
This time we choose Texel Island to relax, because it is a true paradise for beach lovers or beach vacationers with its 30 km long sandy beach. It is the perfect place to have a short break and step out of your daily routine and create precious moments with your family. It is the largest island of Holland, located in the Northern part of The Netherlands.
According to Wikipedia (Wikipedia-bijdragers, 2022), the island has a land area of approximately 170 km².
Its length is 20 km with an average width of 8 km. It has 13,687 inhabitants (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, 2022). Nearly 17% of the active population of over 3,500 people work in agriculture.
Texel means ”right” or “southern” and it is derived from the Germanic word tehswa.

Access to Texel is easy through Port Den Helder, it is just 20 minutes by ferry and you end up in a unique venue.

In Texel, you can visit the airport and observe the planes or fly with the small aircraft to enjoy the panoramic view of the island from above.

If you are an adventurous person, try skydiving!
The mill on the island is called De Traanroeier. Literally means Tear Rower.
It was built in 1727 in Zaandam. After operating as a grain mill for nearly 200 years, it was relocated to Texel, and until now the grain mill is still operational in Oudeschild, Texel. More information about the mill is at www.traanroeier.nl.
Texel has amazing beaches. Stroll along the beach and enjoy the sun or
rent a boat to discover the shore. Let the wind blow your mind and recall
all your sweet memories across the emerald sea.

Fly with me, my azure sky
Sail with me, my emerald sea
Allow me to anchor my ship in your harbor, my love.
The scent of the sea is very tempting to dive into the sea and swim as freely as the seals in these waters.
There are more sheep and cows than there are people on the island. They supply numerous commodities to manufacture all kinds of dairy products and wool.
The Dutch country is known for its delicious variety of cheese and milk products. Once you taste the cheese, you fall in love with its characteristic taste.
Take a bike and enjoy the scenery of the countryside on Texel Island.
Don’t forget to bring your camera and say cheese to the sheep!
Craving some lamb meat for special occasions? Or do you have a plan to surprise your loved ones with romantic dining? Try out the Texel lamb meat, because it is so delicious, especially for a romantic diner with a bottle of red wine and a red rose for your loved one.
From the Den Helder port, we are crossing the sea by ferry with our car to get to the island.
There are numerous entertainment possibilities for children to enjoy themselves and their time on the island.
